Ghost Island (Choose Your Own Adventure Jr.)

Great for Kids
I was excited to find this line of choose your own adventures for younger kids. If your young one is easily spooked, this one might be a touch scary, but the story lines flow well and lots of choices to make.

Sharp left turn in the story....
I was so excited to get this and read it with my rising 1st grader who loves getting to make choices.I was disappointed by the disjointed story that then took a sharp turn at the end of our 1st read. Where the child you are in the story winds enslaved by the cruel Christopher Columbus. I looked at the ending on the opposing page and the child is physically attacked by a ghost and left with broken bones in the hospital. You can decide if these stories are what you are looking for, for your kids but they were not for us. This was not what I expected for a ghost story directed at young kids.

Boring. No imagination
Boring. Didn’t hold kids attention at all. If you could return books, I would have returned this for sure. The only reason I gave it 5 stars was so people would read the review

So far THE BEST
This book so far THE BEST what we were reading ( choose your story book) before and after . Yes , some ends “ unpleasant “ but I think it’s teach kids that life is not always smooth. I read this book several kids and was no problem, they excepted even bad end pretty ok .

Perfect for early readers
My 6 year old really enjoyed reading this. There are several endings so it took him a few days to get through them. Larger letters and easy to follow along.

Great book
My son, an advanced reader in 2nd grade says he really likes this book. This is the third Dragonlark book I got him so far its his favorite. Not too scary and good, he says!

A little scary
Bought this for my 6 year old and she was a little scared by the stories. I thought it would be more fun and adventurous, but instead kids are being thrown into the air by ghosts, or getting banished into the afterlife. I think it would be fine for kids a little older.

Possibly a bit scary for 6 year olds and had a weird colonial vibe
I love the Choose your own Adventure stories and wanted to get one for my son. I think there is one happy ending - all the rest involved abandonment and slavery (the latter in a really flippant way) and I left me feeling a bit like Britain needs to readdress it's colonial history which is not usually the feeling I have after reading kid's book.. for example, Nadia Shireen's Bumblebear or JD's Gruffalo even tho both are clearly allegories.I haven't read the others but this was weird. Nice illustrations tho...

A different take on reading
I bought this as I used to read Choose Your Own Adventure books when I was young and loved the number of twists and turns they gave you. My seven year old son enjoyed this updated version. Only slight downside is you can read a number of pages without having to make choices which means ultimately on a few different combinations of plot. Good fun though especially for reluctant readers.
