Handy
I finally decided to get one. I keep it in my wallet and yes the fire steel broke off as I expected. A little super glue and it's back at 100%. The whistle is very loud. The compass will guide you in a straight line. The magnifying glass isn't that great for reading or anything like that. Tweezers and pick are just like what you find on the victorinox Swiss Army knives. The knife works decently an the fire steel throws a good spark. All in all I am very pleased.

Surprising little package
I have to admit I was both skeptical and kinda excited to buy this item. I really like the idea of having a compact kit on my person at all times. The Tool Logic Survival Card fits the bill quite well. It's strengths are its compact size (definitely fits comfortably in my wallet), and the variety of items in the kit. The knife has surprising heft, the compass works accurately (meaning it clearly identifies a general direction, but is to small for anything precise), and the whistle is exceptionally loud. On a slightly disappointing note, the magnifier would barely be of any use. It's focal length is less than one inch. So, it would be hard to use it as a magnifier for detailed work like removing a splinter or a fine screw, or re-soldering a connection on an electrical device. Also, the tooth pick is not resilient and would need replacing after only a few uses. The magnesium sparking bar works well and I was able to light a fire from it by the fourth strike. However, there are definitely a limited number of strikes before you have used up the bar. I thought the kit would come with an order form for replacement parts, but it did not. All and all, I am very happy with the purchase, the product, and its performance.

You can actually start fires with this...
This is a pretty cool item for your PSK (personal survival kit).I have this in my Esee 6 knife pouch along with a altoids kit of goodies. The card is pretty thin, but out of the box, I recommend some modifications.First, you have to kind of tap the compass because it seems many come frozen out of the box. Once you free the ring, it's quite nice and accurate (aligns with my Brunton).Second, I recomend you file down your tweezer edge to make a nice even closing of the two metal tips. I took a file and grinded my metal so that I get a more positive "grab" from the tweezers. The whistle is very loud, and the knife is surprisingly sharp. It is chisel grind however, not a flat grind as you might expect (probably since there is a serration the company thought it would be easier to keep it chisel grind).I'm delighted that there are two ways you can start fire with this card. The magnifying glass and ferro rod. I have been sucessful with manifying glass and charcloth. On white paper, it's very difficult to start a fire, so keep that in mind. With a ferro rod, I take magnesium shavings, or cotton balls, and I was able to get fire within 5 strikes. (For use with a ferro rod, ONLY use the jimping on the knife to strike, never the knife edge!)Overall, for $15 (on sale), it's a pretty cool "backup" item to have in the woods for just in case emergencies. I do however recommend you practice any skill and/or tools you plan to bring with you out there.

More of a backup item
I purchased this item for my survival pack. I always make sure i can have a back up if needed, just in case. This item is more of a back up tool than anything. The knife is alright, but only as a back up in case you loose your other tools. It is small but effective in cutting rope and other tiny objects. They have a picture of this knife wrapped around a wooden handle as a make shift "spear". Again, if its the last tool you have left its better than nothing. The lense is small enough for maybe starting a fire if you have nothing else. I should have opted for the light, but those batteries are too expensive to replace. The compass is faulty. You have to remove the knife to get a reading, even then its terribly small and partial accurate. This wont work if you need a quick reading! The less energy you have to use something in the wild, the better. The two items i feel make this semi-worth it would be the magnesium strip at the bottom and the whistle at the top. Both are important, the whistle can be used for attracting attention for help or warning an animal/scaring them away. These two things will work fine without backups but if your going into the wilderness, backups are always important.Over all the reason this items gets three stars is that its just ok. The items will work if need but as a survival tool it should not be depended on as a first resort. It may work better carrying it in urban settings just in case you get stuck in your car (seatbelt) or need that extra space saving tool for everyday.

Perfect design, really useful, my backup mini-tool for outdoors.
This survival card really helps you in an survival situation or as a backup tool. Its design is rugged and durable, easy to carry and well designed to maximize utility. You can start a fire with the magnesium flint or magnifying glass. The knife is very sharp and could be used as spearThe compass will give you basic orientation and locationThe whistle will help you to be localized without getting hoarse in cloudy places, remote, with dense vegetation or any place that limits your visibility. The other components could be useful in more conventional situations ..I recommend in addition to any survival or emergency kit for those who like to go fishing, camping, hunting, etc.No doubt it would be a very useful and appropriate gift.

My compass is not accurate :(
I like the tool..........but the compass is not accurate :( Unfortunately for me I opened it, played with it, friends played with it....... and the packaging got thrown out before I realized the compass was not accurate. I really wish I had kept the packaging and checked the compass first. Kinda disappointing they wouldn't check these things before they leave the factory. You would think the compass would be one of the main things that could be defective and so a little more attention to functionality would be given..... but I guess not. Will still cut things, light a fire, whistle loud, pick my teeth and pull a sliver if I need it to. It will just send me in the wrong direction...........like thats anything new for me.

Purchase in 2018 was amazing. However in 2021 it was a nock off missing key components.
2018 Purchase was amazing. But the product I received in my 2021 purchase not the product intended. However, seller returned money. Thus rating is now a 3. Original product would have been a 4 or 5 rating. Second product would be a one. Thus updating to be a 3.
