This years knife bargain.
I think this will be a hot seller for Kershaw. It will surpass all expectations. Truth be told I wasnt nuts about the looks of the knife but I did want to add a wave knife to the collection If you collect knives you ought to have one, just as you should have a knife with an AXIS lock. Back to the looks... Id say form follows function and once you put it into your hands the ergos will tell you that this knife is right. The blade tip was made for one thing, penetration. The gimping is sort of coarse and rounded off, not the best traction plan that I have ever seen but better than some others. I wouldnt have minded this type of gimpoing where the back spacer meets the palm of the hand. I might modify mine and add tubular spaces and open up the knife. Its sturdy as is, it's just a visual preference for me and cost cutting measure for them. The lock is solid, tight, almost a little late compared to some but it wont fold on a spine whack so easily ( probably not ever). It is fairly tight compared to a flipper and starts opening easdier as you use it. The centering in nearly perfect, it's 95% and really that is nitpicking. The Wave cutput and resulting ridge created the perfect place for your thumb. Overall it's a great EDC knife if you want a larger (tactical) folder. The edge was an 8.5 out of 10. This knifes design is tactical, period. This aint Grampas Case knife that he cleaned his pipe out with. This is for opening up other things. It might even replace my edc, the Kershaw 1870, at least they will share the duty. I have 50-60 knives and this is in the top when you look at price, function, quality. Yes a Lionsteel is nice but I dont want to driop it and damage that beautiful machining on the one piece handle, My Almar Sere2000 is nice too, I beat it up a work, It's too nice for work. This one hits that magic point, form, function and price. If you lose it, it's not the end of the world. I really reccomend it.

Great knife
Update: i will admit that i have a knife and flashlight problem. While i have not found the perfect flashlight, i do believe this is the perfect EDC knife for a myriad of reasons. I have 3 or 4 of theses knives now and am amazed by their durability as well as how long the blade remains sharp. I really have no time for dull knives - it’s like wearing a shoe that has no sole - what’s the point. I have many knives that I can sharpen, but only a select few hold that sharpness. There also seems to be another class of knife that is sharp on day 1 and will never be that sharp again. Thankfully, these blades hold an edge and after years of use are razor sharp. I did break the tip off one trying to free up the head on a string trimmer - which was stupid - but the only tool I had around at the time. I am in love with the self deploying feature when pulling it out of your pocket because I often find that when I need the knife, I don’t have a hand to spare. I am not sure what more you could want in an every day carry knife. Excellent value, durability, and craftsmanship - you do not have to spend $400 to have a good EDC…thank goodness because I am constantly rotating through these as I leave one in the shop, my car and it’s easier to grab another one than look for them.It has been 30 yrs since my last kershaw carry knife. I love this one. The hook on the backside that deploys the knife as you remove it from a pocket is ingenious and so helpful. I wish there was a lever or lock back blade lock, but the frame lock works well and grows on you. The blade is much better than $30 price tag would lead me to expect.

It's not perfect but it offers features that are only found in otherwise $200 knives
I had to spend a few hours of working on the knife to get it to be exactly where I wanted it to be. I've bought Three, lost one and gave one to a friend. It comes out of box with a blade that isn't centered. A very heavy and tough and slightly gritty opening. I mean very hard to open with your thumb out of the box. On all of them the frame lock mechanism didn't engage as far as i'd liked and on one, it was slipping out on me which is potentially dangerous. So pretty terrible out of the box but it's alright for $30.What I did was take the entire thing apart and use rubbing alcohol to degrease everything and then I used vaseline on all the moving surfaces. This makes it much smoother already. Then I have to play with the pivot screw and the 3 back screws to adjust the tension so that the blade centers properly yet it still closes and opens very smoothly. Then I find the detent that makes it hard to open and I grind it down halfway with an arkansas to make it easier to open and smooth as butter. Then I tune the camming surface of the blade at the back with an arkansas stone just a touch and then I bend the frame lock just a bit so it locks further in and is more secure and until there is no play. Then for the final touch, I come in with an arkansas stone and polish the metal around the washer. What I end up with is a knife that has the fit and finish of a $200 knife but it has the excellent handle that I like and the excellent blade that I like. I'd take this hand polished knife over an actual Emerson for $200 because I like the handle and blade shape better. The only draw back is the cheap blade steel but I know how to sharpen knives and I can give it a working edge in about 30 seconds or less.
