Think it through.... quite simple. 48" jack is 12" longer - only difference. Jack shaft is about 1/2" thick by 2" wide. So 12 x 2 x 1/2 = 12 cu inches of extra steel at 0.29 lbs per cu inch = 3.48 lbs. Now consider all the holes and assume that removes about 40% material so you have 3.48 x .6 (60%) = 2 lbs - and that's the weight difference....
