El Cucuy
Review by DeeDee, Age 9Do you like scary stories? In the fable "El Cucuy," by Joe Hayes, two girls learn to listen to their elders. There was a bogey man who lived in the mountains. When kids misbehaved toward their elders then El Cucuy would come out of the mountains and take the bad kids away. Read this book to learn about what happened to the two girls he takes away.My favorite part was when the girls thought El Cucuy was not real but then El Cucuy came to take the girls away. The author wrote this book to teach bad children to behave and to scare children into behaving. I would recommend this book to someone who does not behave.El Cucuy is a scary book that teaches kids to behave. You should read it soon.

Every language gas a bogeyman
I truly enjoy this book!! It is a Latin bogeyman story that is sure to enchant. The bad little girls (who don't do their chores) don't believe their father's stories about the bogeyman 'el cucuy" until the day he shows up!!1 In both English and Spanish it a great book to share any day. There is a moral to the story that even young children will pick up on, but that doesn't take away from the tale.As a side note, I also like that the parent is a single father. Not that it matters to the kids, but I like seeing small tweaks like that in a story. It shows that moms are not the only parents who love and cherish their children and would do anything for them, but dads as well. This is a great father daughter book for that reason.

Super cute story to read to my two year old ...
Super cute story to read to my two year old since his uncles told him about the Cucuy. Not scary but for sure made him aware...and it's great that his great grandma can read it to him since she only speaks spanish.

Best Scary Story Ever!
Excellent book. If you enjoy old school stories, you are going to love this one. Not only is the story an oldie, Joe Hayes describes the lesson very well. This is the story as I recall my father telling it to me. If you behave like a fool, a monster may come and take you away. And if you are lucky, when you return, you will be more grateful, sweet, and gentle than ever.

Great family favorite
Great book to add to your children's library, even if they haven't heard of El Cucuy. This story might scare them enough to believe in him and begin to listen a little better. I think it is a "fun" scary story, and this version makes Cucuy the monster that doesn't want to really take children away but has too if they don't behave (and parents summon him) Obviously it is a lot gentler than the traditional stories of him eating the kids, but an effective tool to use for children to listen and help out around the house. :)

Alright I suppose
I only bought this book for my daughter because the author was at her school. She read it a few times and hasn't touched it since. Im not even sure I remember what the book is about. But will always help out local authors.
