How often do you change the filter

I have owned this vacuum in the 18v version for 10yrs in my construction buisness and just bought this 20v for my new truck. I have change the filter twice with a new one and have cleaned it an blown it out and blew out the gills with a air suppl at low pressure probably 1000 times. Do not use this vacum to pick up wet things at all. It will do it np, but whatever you put into it stays in it till you clean it out. Just clean and dump as you go and this vacuum will last a long time. Steve

Is the battery compatible with the 20v drill?

Maybe not. I returned the first vacuum I bought and got a replacement. The replacement has the same problem the original had. Both shut off after a few seconds of use. My theory is the problem is battery compatibility. I have the 20V max XR lithium DCB203b batteries. This battery is not mentioned in the user guide. I am going to return the second vacuum.

How easy is it to switch from wet back to dry pickup? does it make a mess? what happens with the filter?

Take the filter off first. too many complaints about wet filters. This is nothing different than other wet vacs quarter turn filter is removed.

How does this compare to the bigger 4 gallon dewalt as far as power goes?

I’m WAY late to this but I own both and find that they might even use the same motors. The only difference is capacity. Use the largest batteries you have though as when the batteries charge reduces the vacuum strength does reduce as they are powerful motors. I use 5 amp+ 20v batteries and more recently I love the 60v flexvolt batteries from my yard tools (chainsaw and leaf blower) they fit but the batteries end up taller than designed. Still works and runs forever like this.
