It takes practice to load this easily, but then it works great! Here's how I do it:
I am new to metal stamping. I am right handed, so it is nice to have the metal stamp holder in my left hand and the hammer in my right hand. I put my right thumb on the bottom of the letter punch, and keeping the metal stamp holder opening towards me in my left hand, I insert the letter punch from below the stamp holder, with my thumb also towards me. Then just tighten and stamp!

Mixed feelings
Holds die firmly & keeps your hand away from striking area. The fact that it holds different sizes of die is also great. However,I wish I would have bought a jig that also holds the die level. With your hand at the end of the handle it is difficult to tell when the die is level so stamp imprints comes ut uneven. For me anyway.

No more smashed thumb
After stamping a lot of name plates and several hurt thumbs. I got this now there is no looking back.
