Is the crimper a ratchet-type so you have to clamp down all the way before it will ratchet back open?

Yes, it is a ratchet-type. If you ratchet all the way down it does ratchet open. It also has a release switch in the handle so you may be able to release it before it is all the way down. I didn't use this switch so not sure how or if this would work.

Will this crimper work with Renogy connectors?

Yes I used them with my Renogy panels and will work on any that have the MC4 connectors

Will this work with H4 connectors?

H4 is a different connector but you can cut off the h4 and crimp on a mc4 with this kit

There are 3 dies (2.5/4/6mm), which size for the MC4's that come with the kit?

(2.5/4/6mm) is the size cable that is to be terminated or connected to the MC4 connector, therefore anyone size can be used. 2.5mm is equivalent to AWG12, 4mm is equivalent to AWG10 and 6mm is equivalent to AWG8. most often used is 4mm.
