Q: How do you measure your childs foot to know what size to get?

I bought an estimated size and luckily was correct. If you go to a quality kids' shoe store, they will measure it for you, too. Then you can go from there.

Q: Will these fit a 1year old who is walking with fat feet? Do they have a pull out sole for wider feet?

This is a nice shoe but I honestly wouldn't look for flat foot support in this one. It was pretty wide and if you look through the stride right shoes some are specifically for wide feet. We also purchased Wobbly Waddlers which is more expensive but very well made shoe with arch support.

Q: Are these machine washable?

You could run them through a cool wash, but let them air dry for a couple days before wearing again.
