bought this for a 12ltr tank and it needs constant cleaning. when the sponge gets a slight amount of debris/algae build up the water inside the filter will instead go out of another hole and completely avoid the sponge, meaning theres no filtering happening. I added another sponge to the hole where the water comes out but this wouldn't happen at all if the lid was better at sealing this hole.Its very loud and vibrates on side of the tank.Since using this I have also had consistent bouts of cyano bacteria

Despite the description, pictures and packaging, the version sent does not includes a surface skimmer. However, when setting up a freshwater aquarium, regular water changes are advised, and will take care of surface film.It vibrates against the tank, making a Hummmmm. But its not awful probably around 40db noise. The suction can be adjusted. If the suction is limted, this will decrease the outflow. Useful feature.The compartments are small. I cut the accompanying sponge in half. Installed half the sponge and some eheim bioballs for added biofiltration. I also added a segment of coarse (blue) sponge above the actual pump as a first point of filtration (see pic).I have a 2-3 inch thick substrate, which is aquasoil and dirt, capped with coarse and fine sand woth additional nutrient tabs. The tabs will always leech, despite the cap, and you will find this creates bubbles on the surface. This is usually ammonia that hasn't been broken down. Water changes and quickstart bacteria (and old filter juice) with this filter cleared up the issue once the plants became established, which took about 3-4 weeks. There is large chunks of larva rock too, for harboring more beneficial bacteria. Although small, this filter suites this type of setup that has thick substrate and larva rocks and plants (plants mainly clean water).If this filter stops working, I will update this review promptly. Just using it on an empty tank with plants. Works well just to move the water however if I end up adding fish I would change the filter medium.

I didnt like that it was different to the picture and it is very loud when turned on

Very confused about this product, there are no instructions, the picture on the box does not match whats inside either…Also no skimmer included.But its kind of pretty. Havent tried it yet but will soon!

Very compact, more noise compared to alot of pumps I've used before, no skimmer as advertised

Does what it's supposed to for the cost it's greatOnly issue would be that the image shows a surface skimmer and there is none on the product that was deliveredThis shouldn't be an issue though for the size tank you would use this on as the disturbance from the outlet should keep any surface film from forming
