My twins are 11months and nearly 20lbs each. I know the carrier is made to hold children upto 35/40 lbs but is that really doable or is it too heavy?

Mine are 25 lbs each and 27 months and we still wear it. Mostly for short trips but very handy for those trips. The carrier didn't come out until my girls were already 13 month so I was on the fence but IM SO glad I have it.

Is it easy to put both babies at the twin carrier by oneself with no extra help?

It depends on how old your babies are. If they have good head/torso control, it's not hard. I use the "hip scoot" method, and it takes about 3 minutes to get them both in, maybe less. I tried the "superman" method, but that didn't feel very secure. You can look up videos with tutorials. My babies are now almost a year, and over 20 lbs each, so I don't use the TwinGo as much as I did, but it still comes in handy once in awhile.
