Can it be used for hot water?

I haven't tried putting hot water in one of these glasses. I use them only for cold or iced drinks.

I've seen multiple reviews of the base of the glasses falling off. Are the sides too thin to support the weight of the base?

I bought these glasses as a gift for my daughter. She is very happy with them, and said they have a nice weight to them and look more expensive in person. She doesn’t think there is an issue with the sides being too thin.
