Welder
I purchased the Saker Portable Electric Welding Machine as I work on improving my DIY skills. From the moment it arrived, neatly packaged in a printed cardboard box, it was clear this set offered great value. It includes the main welding gun, an earth clamp, a face shield, 20 welding rods, a carrying/storage case, and an instruction leaflet—everything needed to get started. The welder is powered by a 240V AC mains connection and features a flexible 20-120A output, adjustable via a built-in control knob on the top of the gun. It’s designed to accommodate arc rods between 2.5mm and 3.5mm, making it well-suited for small-scale welding tasks at home or in a workshop. One of its standout features is the hot arc start function, which simplifies arc ignition and helps create a cleaner, tidier weld pool. The machine is compact and lightweight, comparable to my mains-powered SDS drill, making it easy to maneuver. While the included face shield is a useful addition, it feels quite basic and flimsy—I’ll be investing in a sturdier mask for better protection and hands-free operation during more complex tasks. At under £120 (at the time of ordering), this welding machine is a fantastic option for DIY enthusiasts. It offers versatility, convenience, and impressive functionality at an affordable price. Whether you’re a beginner or looking for a reliable tool for small welding jobs, this is definitely worth considering.

DIY stick welder
This portable welding machine from Saker is just what I was looking for as I try to develop my DIY skills (with a day course in MMA welding booked for next month). The weight of the welder is manageable - in size and weight it’s similar to my mains-powered SDS drill. The machine will accept welding rods from 2.5-3.2mm wire (not supplied) and has five output settings from 20 to 120A. The welder is provided with a hard shell carry case, together with a rather basic and flimsy self-assembly welding mask - I’ll be investing in a better mask which will free both hands for the welding machine before I engage in any bigger tasks. On offer at time of review for under £120, this seems terrific value for the DIY home welder.

Good for smaller jobs.
This is really handy for smaller diy jobs. It's lightweight but works well. Takes a little bit of getting used to but the instructions are fairly clear.
