Will this work for my 5mm Yamaha FS800?

Well, 5mm is 5mm. But Martins have recessed truss rods, meaning they're located further inside the soundhole. So the length of the wrench is ideal for reaching them. That said, if your Yamaha's truss rod hex is closer to the soundhole, this wrench may be too long to fit in it squarely, as the other side of the soundhole may interfere with it.

Will this fit a Martin d18 acoustic guitar

I would like to say yes, it should fit. It fits my custom Martin. I think there the same. I have read before that the D18 is a little deeper so you may need to go with a 51/2 or 6 inch long Allen. But I think 5mm is standard Martin.

I bought this as recommended, and it doesn't fit the martin lx1. which size should i get for the lx1?

You didn't specify if it's too big or too small, just that it doesn't fit. I'm assuming it's too big. Most Martin's take a 5mm wrench which this one is, or in some cases, a 4mm. If this one doesn't fit, try the 4mm.
