Effective Japanese Beetle Trap – Catches Hundreds, Worth the Investment!
The Safer Brand Japanese Beetle Trap has been a game-changer for our garden, where we had a serious Japanese beetle problem that used to destroy our green beans, berries, and plum tree. We've placed several traps around the yard, and they catch hundreds of beetles each season. While they can be a bit pricey to replace every year, they're definitely worth it because they work so well. If you're struggling with a Japanese beetle infestation, I highly recommend these traps!

Extremely effective! Hang with a zip tie.
Beetles were already flying in as I was hanging the trap. These have been perfect- bags full of beetles. The only problem is if it is windy, the very thin twist tie breaks and the trap is on the ground. I am replacing with zip ties.

After setting up run!
The media could not be loaded. So this work too well. My suggestions are these. Put far from your plants because this attracts! I put mine 15 ft away and they not only swarmed the bag but my roses too so I will be putting this more towards the woods. The odor is potent like a bad lavender I could smell it from 30 ft away. Put by a bird feeder. I put mine on a bird feeder and birds were having a field day eating the little nuisances. Con is yes they can get through the drain holes. My suggestion is put scotch tape over the holes and pull tape off after a rain. Besides that the product works. Do not put within 30ft of garden or affected area this attracts! They will still find your garden. But after 2 hrs I had 30 plus, I emptied and after 1 full day I had hundreds! Place far, and empty often. I burn them after throwing them in bags.

Works great.
I have tried other brands, but these are the best yet. Lasts at least two months, attracts the beetles in droves.

Didn’t work
I followed the instructions and I’ve seen the beetles around here but I didn’t catch not one single beetle wish I hadn’t missed the return window due to illness cause I’d returned it!!!

Bag designed is significantly flawed
Really not impressed by this trap. The bag has two major design flaws that limit its effectiveness:-Most importantly, the drainage holes in the bottom are big enough for the beetles to crawl out of! I literally watched two pull themselves out of the holes and fly away. Not confidence inspiring.-Secondly, the hole in the middle of the bag doesn't stay open, so the beetles kind of build up there. I'm not sure whether this is intended which is why I'm reluctant to bash them here, but I don't see any other traps that use a similar method of building them up in the middle of the bag, and then they eventually fall through? These flaws are pretty concerning, because if you're not actually catching them, you're just making your life worse by attracting beetles to your yard so they can eat all your plants...

SWARMS like I've never imagined showed up
UPDATE:(2019) New year, new trap. This year I set the trap out a couple weeks earlier, made a tripod to hang it from, cut the bottom of the bag off and placed it an inch from the water in a 5 gallon bucket with a squirt of dish soap (about 4 inches deep). The temperature has been in high 80s for several days and had just started seeing Jap. Beetles yesterday. As soon as I opened the lure and stuck it on the trap they started showing up and caught a dozen in the first 10 minutes.I feel it important to add that I barely saw any Skunks in my yard since last fall and even the Opossums aren't hanging around much ( My place was Skunk central for several years prior to using this trap! ) and Japanese Beetles are much more active when the temperature is OVER 85 degrees.(2018) My Pawpaw trees are thanking me!Counted 40ish Japanese Beetles and panic set in! A search of traps brought me to Amazon and I chose this Safer Brand trap. The first 2 days were slow with high temps in low 80s and some rain storms. The third day, yesterday, SWARMS like I've never imagined showed up.Instead of waiting for the bag to fill, I cut the bottom and put a 5 Gal. bucket with a gallon of water and 1 drop of liquid soap under the bag, about an inch from the top of the water. The first round only took a few hours, when the beetles covered the water surface new beetles hit the floaters and flew back out... round two ended after noon today (I had a new bucket ready to go and flushed the round 1 beetles down the toilet when they quit moving). I hung the bag from a curved piece of Bamboo I had laying around, stuck in the ground. Round three is filling while 2 is covered and perishing.PROS: The lure works really well for Jap. Beetles, (have seen bad reviews by people using this for the wrong species) and the price, for what you get is really quite good.CONS: What you get ~is~ cheap, so a little bit of tweeking and imagination can help it to work a LOT better.Read reviews for tweek ideas, like the zip cable to keep the bag open....

Works REALLY well!
Easy to assemble, uses a natural lure so chickens can eat the trapped beetles, had to change the bag in 4 days time. I haven’t seen a downside to the traps so I give it a rare-for-me 5/5.
