Two Notes Torpedo C.A.B. M + Speaker Simulator Pedal

I love this piece of gear. Bass rig fits in a lunch box.
If you're looking for a "real" amp, move along. Or if you're like me, looking for a cool piece of tech for your bass or guitar tone then check this out. This pedal simulates a clean guitar/bass amplifier, with a mix of 32 guitar/bass speaker cabinets, and multiple microphones, and the ability to move the microphones around in a 3D simulated room, either in front of or behind the speaker cabinets for different tone, plus the bonus of different room reverbs to simulate studio or cathedral sounds if you like. So, if you are tired of lugging around heavy speaker cabinets, here's your new rig that fits in a kids lunch box--I got tired of lugging around an Ampeg SVT 400 head with 1x15 and 4x10 cabinet; if I were a rock star, that's what the Roadies would be paid to do. They upgraded the software to include a pre-amp. So, I ordered this and another of their products, the "Le Bass" but I got this first. And I was happy with this alone. I have an old Line 6 Bass POD and I liked it's ease of use. I was in a reggae band, so I chose Sub-Dub and left it alone, and got a monitor feed, with no amp. It also had vintage amp Sims and it's not bad in the grand scheme of things. But time and tech marches on… this versatile Torpedo C.A.B. M+ ( Cabinets inA Box--and the + is the software upgrade) blows the old POD away. There's another review here that spoke of noise from this Torpedo C.A.B. M+ pedal, and at first, I noticed that too, and it was bad… HOWEVER, I kept playing with it and it must be some fluke of the default settings out of the box. Also, I was running it into a digital mixer and the channel had a compressor on it, with "Make up" on (signal boost) so the combination of pedal gain/volume plus the compressor boost accentuated the noise/hiss to an annoying degree, but once I turned off the compressor in lieu of creating all the tone in the C.A.B. pedal, the hiss was reduced to virtually nothing! My laptop fan was louder than any hiss from the C.A.B. and no different from the Line 6 Bass POD. THEN, when I got my "Le Bass" 12ax7 tube pre-amp to feed this amp/cab sim, I really fell in love with my new rig!!! I have a home studio, but with guests staying here, next to the Studio room, I wanted to play with my new toy at 5 AM, and you can set this little pedal up wherever you have AC power (for me, in the opposite end of the house so as not to bother others in the house) AND feed a ⅛" inch jack to an Aux IN so you can play along with whatever tunes you phone or laptop feed it and use the ⅛" headphone out to mix the Aux IN and your guitar/bass (the pedal is Mono, so a stereo feed gets mono-ized--not a big deal, but if you wanna get around that and still be portable with headphones, use an audio interface that's a single or 2 channel in, then output your C.A.B. Out to the audio interface, then play stereo from laptop to the interface and mix in your mono signal...OR feed the Mono out of the C.A.B. to other stereo effect pedals and mix your final stereo out with your stereo feed to the audio interface. So cool! I recently had use of a vintage Ampeg portaflex flip top, and this pedal does a great job of simulating that tone, especially when mixed in a band recording. I'll do a separate review on the Le Bass purchase. The screenshots are the Torpedo C.A.B. bonus software. It's not necessary, because every single adjustment can be made on the pedal itself, but having a touch screen with pictures makes things a little more intuitive...And the pedal itself is also intuitive!

Great sounds, flexible, some limitations
This is a really solid, well constructed piece of kit. When they designed it, they either over-spec'd the processor or they made more efficient software after the fact, because their firmware update totally changes the use case of it. With the new preamp, you can use it as a total pedal platform. The included cab sims sound fantastic, as you would expect from Two Notes. The reverbs are quite usable. The power amp configuration is very flexible, and although there's a single preamp, it's a Fender-style preamp that goes great with pedals. It has both XLR and 1/4" out, so it gives you a lot of routing options. You can go from the 1/4" output to stereo effects for use in a stereo rig, or do that in addition to the XLR out for a wet/dry/wet rig, or any combination. Recording couldn't be easier. The iPad interface is very easy to use. There are some limitations. It's totally mono (input and output), with one cab model at a time, so no mixing two cabs into left and right output channels. There is also a very, very noticeable delay when changing presets, so don't plan on switching presets in the middle of a song. For live use, you'd want to pick your favorite preset and leave it there. That being said, I love this thing. It's a great tool for folks that want to add amp/cab simulation to their beloved pedal collection without adding a lot of complexity.

Get the opus
This is a good product but you might as well get the two notes opus because it does everything that this does and a lot more.

Essential pedal for any gigging musician
Absolutely one of the most useful pedals for any giging situation! Need a fantastic sounding amp that is expertly mic'd up and with reverb to taste? Of course you do! You get 32 cabinets, all the standard studio/live mic situations, and 99 presets to go nuts with the Two Notes CAB M+...It sounds great through an amp, a PA system, or as a silent practice amp: it’s just fantastic as part of your rig!

Great sound, easy to use.
This little device is really nice. It sounds fantastic, great choice of cabs and now with the new firmware they added a clean preamp. I use a Spark booster and a BE-OD distortion in front of it and it sounds fantastic.I only wish they added midi possibilities and a stereo Aux In but it’s a great machine anyway.
