Q: I removed my seat cushions leaving a wood base. does this have to be removed, or can i put this seat over that base?

I do not think so, the base was part of the seat I bought, this base bolted to the boat deck or structure the cushions were integral to the base providing the framework to which they attached and locked into the upright and extended positions

rated at 250 lbs per seat but will hold considerable more weight
