Inspired...and. Invaluable...
I cannot begin to tell you how incredibly impressed I am with this edition of Macbeth for GCSE. It's inspired. I have to say that this play in its raw format (coupled with it not being one of the comedies) can be daunting for a student. This edition actually makes it fun and eminently readable. The play is contained, within, in its full form but with the addition, throughout, of notes and full explanations. It's extremely well done. The final section of the book contains the play in graphic, comic book format which is also a little bit of fun. A student will be looking forward to using this and to studying Macbeth and will no longer be feeling daunted at the prospect! Highly, highly recommended. An invaluable purchase indeed. Well presented, well packaged with excellent Amazon delivery.

even more fun than when i did macbeth at o'level
i haven't read all of this yet, but so far i've enjoyed it even more than when we did it at o'level.we read julius caesar in the third year and i thought it was boring. i still think julius caesar is boring at 51 years. but macbeth was like a juicy steak of a play, not a lettuce sandwich, what with all the intrigue, skullduggery and supernatural content. this book gives you a guide as to what the text means, as you read it, so you appreciate the story more.doubley double toil and trouble, a bit like my life these day. i hope i don't end up like macbeth, but i haven't murdered anyone, so i might survive yet. i got an A for english literature and language, but if we had this guided text, perhaps i would have achieved an A star? as it was, we had a fab teacher, mr powner, and he brought macbeth to life for us really well. that lady macbeth has got a lot to answer to, but macbeth should have had more sense, the daft fool.i was told twenty years ago that king macbeth was actually a good king of scotland, and that shakepeare's play was written to impress king james stuart the first of england and sixth of scotland. religion can be a doubley double thing too. it can be the worst thing in the world with the territorial wars it has caused, and it can be the most comforting thing on the other hand. "imagine."

A Great Way for the Younger Reader to Engage with the Play
Bought this for my teenage son who is getting ready to sit his GCSE's. His attention span is terrible and it has been hard getting him to read all of his set texts with enthusiasm. However, he seems to enjoy Macbeth so after watching Polanski's film version, I saw this and thought what an addition! CGP always seem to make their guides that little more entertaining and this is exactly what is needed for teenagers who are reluctant when studying Shakespeare.

Please do all the Shakespeare plays in this format!!
This is an excellent edition of Macbeth. The way in which it is set out makes it so easy to read, with different coloured notes and a few pictures to help the amateur Shakespeare reader through the unfamiliar language. I felt they got the level of explanation right - enough to understand what is going on, but not too much as to overwhelm the reading experience.CGP, I realise you have just done the 3 Shakespeare plays for the new GCSE, but please could you do them all? They are excellent.

Helpful exam revision guide full play text included
My daughter was studying the Scottish play for her English exam and it wasn't something that I had covered at school to fall back on to help. This book was very detailed, colour coordinated and came with a lot of insightful information that helped towards the revision plan we had in place. This book had the full text of the play and had the notes alongside, so you could even use this if you were just looking to advance your own knowledge regardless of the exam requirement. Very good value for money.
