Beefy.
I used these to hold the roof latched down on my generator shed. They're probably overkill for that task, but they work well. Didn't realize they were quite so big. I'd definitely trust these for a tire carrier latch on my jeep. The shackles are 5/16" and have some adjustment in and out with the threads, and side-to-side with the shaft the threaded rod goes through, making installation easy. The locking feature is nice because the two halves can be mounted slightly out of plane and remain locked. I used 5/16(8mm) lag screws to mount. The holes are slightly too small for 3/8" bolts. Thankfully, I didn't have the issue that the other reviewer had with the tab for the locking mechanism being formed incorrectly. Hopefully that was just a one-off problem.

These Toggle Clamps Really Work
I used one to hold two barn doors closed to eliminate a drafty gap. These heavy wooden sliding doors are 5' wide and 8' high. One clamp was enough to pull them together snuggly. These clamps are easy to latch and the trigger makes them easy to open.I would have given 5 stars if they had included screws.

Hold well
We welded 15 clamps to our jigs and they work very well... plenty of adjustment... rubber tips melt if welding too close but that's expected... we just remove the rubber and use the head ot the bolt... which works better for hard to hard surface holds...
